The 2006 Toyo Tyres Compak Attak was a rollercoaster ride for McKern Racing, with Damien and the crew

enjoying the highs and feeling the lows of a successful Sports Compact meet.

With rain tumbling down on late Saturday afternoon, the sports compact racers expected the worst when waking up on Sunday morning...but much the excitement of everyone, Sunday turned our perfect, clear skies, crisp air and a perfect track at WSID promised some good racing action.

Grump2 hit the track for the first qualifing session for Oz Mod.  Off the trailer with its first pass, Damien ran a new PB registering an with a very lazy 1.59 short time.  Grump looked promising but smiles turned to frowns when the 13B front plate developed a crack in it resulting in a tonne of oil depositing out of the engine and onto the back tyres.  Unfortunately, this happened at about 400 foot and the oil on the tyres sent Grump into a slide.  It crossed the centre line but Damien was able to grab hold of the slippery beast in just enough time to prevent it from hitting the right lane wall.  But the oil deposited was enough to end the Grump's day and delay the meeting for around 40mins while the track was cleaned.  Although Grump's day was short, many other racers joined Grump and relished the near perfect conditions and also broke PB's.  Some of these included:

As for Grump, this round ends a very eventful season for the crew.  The first venture into the eights, a couple of trips to Sydney and even a trip to New Zealand, Grump will seldom see the track between now and the Fast Fours Jamboree in September.  The new season promises to be exciting and quick for the green machine so keep your eye on the Grump as it continues its charge for the Oz Mod championship in 07....img_1212.jpg
